A month after Mamata Banerjee hosted a massive rally in Kolkata, Delhi will witness a similar coming together of various opposition parties on February 13 at a rally.
Organised by the Aam Admi Party (AAP), it is being called “Tanashahi Hatao, Desh Bachao” (Remove Dictatorship, Save Country) – to be held at Jantar Mantar. Most of the political parties that had joined the Kolkata rally are likely to be part of it.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a day-long hunger strike in New Delhi on Monday demanding special status for the state. The protest was held at the Andhra Pradesh Bhawan. Congress president Rahul Gandhi and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah were among those present at the protest. Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien had also joined the protest meet in solidarity and support. Lawmakers, MPs of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), members of state employees associations, students organisations are among others joining the fast.
Naidu will also join Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, along with other leaders at the Jantar Mantar Rally on Wednesday. However, attendance of the Congress in this rally is almost ruled out.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to reach Delhi today, and will meet leaders of various Opposition parties ahead of the rally. She will be back in Kolkata on Thursday.
