Trinamool’s Anubrata Mondal summoned by CBI three days ahead of polling in Birbhum

Mamata Banerjee asked him to not appear for the summons before election is over in Birbhum.

Anubrata Mondal, Trinamool Congress’ chief in Birbhum, was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) three days ahead of election in the district. He has been asked to be present in the CBI’s Kolkata office tomorrow. He was asked to be present in connection with the probe on cattle smuggling case.

Election in Birbhum is slated in the last phase of Bengal elections, on April 29.

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said at a press conference that Central investigation agencies are being used by the BJP-led government at the Centre to create pressure on the ruling party in Bengal. “Why should he [Anubrata Mondal] appear before the CBI just before the elections are scheduled in his district? An election process is on, doesn’t he have work related to the election in the district where he heads the party?” Banerjee said, adding that he had told Mondol to not appear before the CBI before the election. “There must be restrictions followed for COVID-19. Some officials reached his house in this time where COVID-19 is spreading, and asked him to appear. Is this right?” she asked.
