Two women, who were on their way to the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala, were stopped in the early hours of Monday by protesters at Appachimedu, two kilometres from the temple.
In September this year, the Supreme Court lifted the ban on entry of women of menstrual age – ten to 50 years – inside the temple. But despite the lifting of the ban, no woman in this age group has been able to enter the temple premises in the face of severe protests from common people.
Even on Sunday, a group in which there were 11 women, were stopped on the way to the Sabarimala Temple as several people protested. The protesters include two women as well.
