We will include the Emergency period in educational institution curricula: Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar
Calling the Emergency in 1975-77 the “second freedom struggle” of India, Union Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday disclosed the Centre’s plan to include this period in the curricula at educational institutions.
At a press conference in Jaipur, Javadekar announced, “Children must know the reality of the Emergency.”
Earlier, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu also demanded the inclusion of “the darkest period of Indian democracy” in the curricula at all educational institutions.
With the Emergency completing its 43rd year on June 25, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have increased their attack on Congress and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for imposing the Emergency.
