Former President Pranab Mukherjee, who had tested positive for COVID-19 undergoes brain surgery, on ventilator

Former President Pranab Mukherjee – who was President between 2012 and 2017 – has undergone brain surgery to remove a clot in his brain and is now on ventilator support at the Army Hospital Research and Referral in Delhi.

On Monday, Mukherjee took to Twitter to say that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

He had written in his tweet that those who had come in contact with him for the past one week should isolate themselves and get tested. Mukherjee, whose Twitter handle is @CitiznMukherjee, wrote, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19”.

The message of the 84-year-old senior leader was responded with wishes of speedy recovery.

Several senior political leaders across the country, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa are among those who have tested positive for COVID-19.
