Yogesh Raj, the key accused in the mob violence in Bulandshahr of Uttar Pradesh in which a police inspector and a civilian were killed on December 3, has been arrested. The mob violence was allegedly triggered by discovery of cow carcasses.
Raj, the local convener of Bajrang Dal has been absconding since the day of the violence. According to police, he was arrested around 11.30 pm on Wednesday night from the Khurja T-point on National Highway 91.
A video clip showing Yogesh Raj had surfaced — which the accused is said to have recorded and released from his hiding — in which he claimed innocence and denied being present at the site of violence.
Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and civilian Sumit Kumar were killed after being shot at during the mob violence in Bulandshahr. An FIR against 27 persons and 60 unidentified persons was registered at the Siyana police station for the mob violence and after cow carcasses were reportedly found strewn around at the nearby village.
Earlier, Prashant Nutt, who had allegedly shot the police officer, had been arrested. Another person, Kalua, alleged to have used an axe to injure the officer, has also been arrested. A third arrested person, Johny, is alleged to have snatched the officer’s revolver. A fourth person, Jitendra Malik, who is in the army, has also been accused of being part of the gang that committed the murder and has been arrested earlier.
And now with Yogesh Raj’s arrest, the police now hope to find out more about the mob violence and what led to the shocking murder of officer Subodh Kumar Singh.
