Trinamool Congress launches “Jumla Meter” to “expose” PM Modi, Amit Shah and BJP’s “lies”

The Trinamool Congress has launched on its social media platforms a “Jumla Meter” – in order to “expose” before people the “lies” that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah have said publicly since the party came to power in 2014. The Jumla Meter can be seen on the Trinamool Congress’ official pages, including its Twitter account.

According to a senior party official, “We have quoted PM Modi’s words that he has mentioned publicly since 2014. And in order to ‘prove’ that these are nothing but ‘lies’, we have quoted facts from reports published in renowned publications which are mentioned below.”

The Trinamool Congress functionary said that one of the ways to counter the “lies” being spread about the party and its chief Mamata Banerjee is to explain before people “what the reality is”.

The Jumla Meter – the word jumla meaning “false promise” – is loosely used to indicate “lies” here. And thus, the meter has been drawn with one half in saffron (the colour identified with the BJP) marked as “False”, while the other side with “True” on it, is marked in green (associated with the Trinamool Congress). Once the facts are exposed, the needle of the Jumla Meter points to “False”.

The Jumla Meter concerns issues that are important both nationally and for West Bengal. For example, it raises issues on which Mamata Banerjee has worked in north Bengal, the fact that notices have been issued to BJP functionaries in child trafficking cases, decline in investment in agriculture, unemployment and so on.

According to the Trinamool Congress leader, “This is especially meant for the young who will be able to check the statements of the top BJP leaders with what the reality is.”

Here are some of PM Modi’s statements and how the Trinamool Congress meant to counter them:
