With Partha Chatterjee’s arrest, Mamata Banerjee announces big cabinet reshuffle
Departments of deceased ministers Subrata Mukherjee & Sadhan Pandey are also lying vacant.
After the arrest of West Bengal Commerce and Industries minister Partha Chatterjee on July 23, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced a major reshuffle in her cabinet. Chatterjee also handled the Information Technology and Parliamentary Affairs departments. Apart from this, departments handled by Subrata Mukherjee and Sadhan Pandey — who died recently — are also to be given to senior leaders of the party.
Mamata Banerjee today said: “Subrata Mukherjee and Sadhan Pandey died. Partha da (Partha Chatterjee) is in jail. They had important departments like panchayat, commerce and industries and so on. I cannot take the responsibility of so many departments. So a cabinet reshuffle will be done.” She also said that some existing ministers will be taken out of the cabinet and used for “party work”.
The cabinet is likely to have young faces. The new ministers will take oath on Wednesday evening.
