Shashi Tharoor summoned by court in Kolkata for his 'Hindu-Pakistan' remarks

A sessions court in Kolkata on Saturday summoned senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor over his controversial ‘Hindu-Pakistan’ remarks

In his petition, a Kolkata-based advocate Sumeet Chowdhury – whose Twitter account reads additional P.P, Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Court & Advocate at District Judge Court of Chittagong , Bangladesh – said Tharoor’s remarks had not only hurt religious sentiments but also he grossly insulted the Constitution of India.

The petition further stated that his remarks were intended to create great conflict and disharmony on religious grounds. Chowdhury also mentioned that Tharoor had insulted Indians by comparing such a secular nation with an Islamic and extremist state like Pakistan.

The court also allowed to serve the summon through Tharoor’s official Facebook page apart from following the regular process of law. The MP from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram was ordered to appear before the court within August 14 this year.

On July 10, Shashi Tharoor had said that India would become an extremist country like Pakistan if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes back to power in the next year’s general election.
