Actor Alok Nath’s wife has filed an application in court seeking police investigation into allegations made by writer-producer Vinta Nanda, who accused the actor of raping her two decades back. The actor’s wife has requested the court to order the police to investigate into the allegations.
Nanda had written a Facebook post on Monday in which she revealed shocking details of how she was raped and how the lead male actor of the TV series Tara used to harass the lead female actor on the sets. In her account, Nanda wrote that the male actor was eventually slapped by the female lead.
While Nanda did not name the alleged rapist and harasser in her Facebook post, Twitter and Facebook users identified him as Alok Nath from the fact that he was mentioned as a “sanskaari” actor and that he played the lead in Tara.
Later, the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association official, actor Sushant Singh tweeted to say Nath would be sent a showcause notice, promised Nanda all support and urged her to file a formal complaint. The lead female actor of Tara, Navneet Nishan, also confirmed the incident, saying she had ended years of harassment by the actor (thought to be Alok Nath) by slapping him.
Later, Nath said he “neither confirmed nor denied” Nanda’s account. He added that “Neither I am denying this nor do I agree with it. It (rape) must have happened but someone else would have done it. Well, I do not want to talk much about it as for the matter if it has come out, it will be stretched,” Nath said, speaking to ABP News.
Many other female actors in the past week have spoken publicly about Nath’s inappropriate conduct.
