RBI governor to appear before parliamentary committee

Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Urjit Patel is slated to appear before the parliamentary committee on finance on June 12 to offer clarifications on banking frauds and non-performing assets (NPAs).

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is part of the committee. It includes members of all major political parties. This comes after the RBI governor’s recent comments on public sector banks when he said the RBI’s inability to deal with these banks citing lack of power.

Earlier, Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Kumar also came before the committee to answer queries by the committee related to the baking sector.
